#31DC2014 ~ Day 01 Red Nails

Monday, September 01, 2014

Hi everyone,
welcome to September! The hot summer season is over (not that we had one over here) and I am back into full blogging swing. To start out again, I have decided to tackle the 31 Days Challenge. During this challenge, people post their manicures according to a different prompt every day of September. I will try my very best to keep up with this challenge and we will see how it goes.
The first prompt is red and I wanted to start out with something rather simple. OPI - Big Apple Red is one of my favorite red nail polishes of all time. It holds a special place in my heart, because I bought it on my first trip to New York City.

Catrice ~ Metallicious from the Metallure LE

Thursday, August 28, 2014

I haven't bought any Catrice nail polish in quite a while. When I saw the press release for their Metallure limited edition, I was intrigued by the packaging. When I checked out the products in store, I was a bit disappointed, because everything was so frosty and shimmery. Still I took one of their polishes home with me, because I thought a metallic nail polish would work well for stamping. The shade I bought is called Metallicious and is a darkened gold with a hint of olive green.

#LLWeirdScience ~ Cosmic Latte Galaxy Nails

Monday, August 25, 2014

Hi everyone!

It is time for another round of Lacquer Legion, a monthly nail art challenge organized by Sarah from Chalkboard Nails, Sammy from The Nailasaurus, Leslie from work/play/polish and Rebecca from Rebecca Likes Nails. The prompt for this month was Weird Science and being a (weird) scientist myself, I had to take part. If you do not want to read about the scientific background of my manicure, just hit "Click for more" below ;)

You're probably wondering, what the heck is Cosmic Latte. No, it is not the latest drink from Starbucks, even though the name was inspired by one of their drinks. According to astronomers from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Cosmic Latte is the average color of the universe. The scientists measured the spectral range of the light from thousands of galaxies and the average color was a very pale yellow/beige. FYI, the hexadecimal RGB value for Cosmic Latte is #FFF8E7.

In order to find a name for the color, the scientists asked for suggestions from the readers of the article published in the Washington Post. While Cappuccino Cosmico received the most votes, they ended up naming it Cosmic Latte, as one of the researchers was reading the Post while drinking a Latte at Starbucks, which had a very similar color. I would have totally gone for Big Bang Buff/Blush/Beige, which was another suggestion :D

Sephora Haul

Thursday, August 21, 2014

Good evening!

When Sephora.com announced that they were now shipping to Germany the news came like a thunderbolt and spread like a wildfire across the beauty community. Of course I had to go to their website, add all the things I have been lusting after into my cart and was shocked to see how much money one can spend on make up and skin care items. Instead of ordering I went to bed and decided to make a wishlist of the things I really wanted and set myself a limit of money I'd spend. So here it is, my very first Sephora haul. By the way, I still cannot get over the fact that they do not ship nail polish... Farewell Formula X... sigh....

DIY Nail & Cuticle Oil

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Hi everyone!

As a nail polish blogger it is important to me to always have neat and healthy nails and cuticles. To always keep my hands in perfect condition, I use hand lotion and cuticle balms or oils on a regular basis. Therefore, I keep several hand care products at home, in my purse and at work (I am currently using 5 or 6 different hand lotions, 3 cuticle balms and 2 oils, so it is safe to say I am obsessed with hand care...).

When I first started out in nail polish, the very first product I fell in love with was CND's Solar Oil. The light oil with the marzipan scent still is a staple in my nail care collection. Sadly, this is not easily available here in Germany and oftentimes I run out of it before I manage to order online. Looking at the ingredients of several nail oils I have used up until now I thought it should not be too hard to make one myself at home. The recipe below has been tried and tested by me for a while now and I hope you will find it useful! After the recipe I included a little background information on the components of this oil, in case you are interested in what is doing what to your skin :)
