My favorite nail polishes 2011!

Hi there!

I thought the last day of this year would be the right time to show you my favorite nail polishes that were released in 2011! There were tons of polishes I liked very much so I had to narrow it down somehow. And by just picking polishes that were released this year I could cut my list down to ten. Here I will show you - in no particular order - my favorites. Enjoy!

NOTD & Review: Essence - Don't Feed The Tiger

G'day my dear reader!

How are you doing? Are you already done with work for this year? I am and I even finished all the preparations for New Year's Eve. We're going to spend it with friends having "Raclette" which is a very popular dinner on that day over here. What is your typical New Year's Eve dinner?

Today I have for you a Nail Of The Day and a review on a polish from Essence's recent limited edition called Circus Circus. This LE contains four different nail polish shades and what's special about them is that they're all "double sided" polishes consisting of a base color and a glittery polish. Those can be worn layered or individually. I skipped the bright pink and the red version and only picked up the black with gold glitter which is called 01 My Sparkling Acrobat and 02 Don't Feed The Tiger, which is a gold with black/gold glitter topper. So here is Don't Feed The Tiger, the polish I tried first from this limited edition.

NOTD: Revlon - Facets Of Fuchsia

Happy Tuesday!

I hope all of you had a great time at Christmas with family and loved ones! I had, not to mention all the food there was. As usual, Christmas was over much too fast and now everything is back to normal again - which is good as far as the amount of food is concerned, haha. Still I am glad I have this week off so I can relax a bit and calm down from the busy Christmas days. For me, there were no nail polish or make up products under the Christmas tree, but my parents got me a macro lens for my camera which is pretty awesome! Today I took some pictures with it of my current manicure which is Revlon's Facets of Fuchsia. I hope you'll enjoy the "new" pics just as much as I do :)

24 Days Of Christmas Challange - Day 24: Favorite Manicure

Happy Saturday everybody

and welcome to the last day of the Christmas Nail Art Challenge! Phew, those past 24 days passed really quickly and I can't believe Christmas is here again.
The theme for this last day was favorite manicure and I chose a design I've wanted to try for several weeks now. Those are Sephora Nail Art patches I got while I was on vacation in Spain. I thought those would be perfect for Christmas because of their festive design, which is called French Denetelle. Enjoy!

Those are the first nail art patches I have ever tried and my application wasn't perfect. Still they're easy to use and look nice. I really hope they last for the next three days as I don't have the time to do my nails in between all those family gatherings. I will let you know how they wear!
So, this has been this year's 24 Days Of Christmas Nail Art Challenge. Thanks to all the ladies who participated, I enjoyed looking at your designs and of course I myself had a lot of fun doing this challenge together with you! Now me and my nails need some rest :)

Enjoy the holidays and have a good time!

24 Days Of Christmas Challenge - Day 22: Elf

Good evening everyone!

It's Thursday already and today was the last day of work for me this year. I took tomorrow off because I need to prepare so many things before my family will come here for Christmas. And right on time I caught a cold and my nose is red from all the sneezing and itching all the time. Not cool! I hope it won't get worse because I really wouldn't want to spend the Holidays sick and with a runny nose...

The design I have for you today is an elf. This is how it turned out:

As a base color I picked Essence Color & Go Sure Azure. To add a bit of glitter I layered one coat of Confetti Ice Ice Baby on top. I got this pretty polish in a swap with Dana from Polished Claws Up and she did an amazing job picking the polishes for me because they're all so beautiful. Thanks again girl! The photos aren't doing Ice Ice Baby justice as my camera wouldn't want to pick up that pretty turquoise and indigo blue sparkle that really makes it look like ice. You need to see it in person! The elf was done with regular acrylic paint and as a topcoat I used Essence Better Than Gel Nails top sealer.

There are only two more days to go in this challenge and tomorrow's theme will be Santa.
Thanks for reading and good night,

- Sabine

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this design was inspired by a nail art tutorial from Rina. You can find the tutorial here.

24 Days Of Christmas Challenge - Day 21: Reindeer/Rudolph

Good afternoon and Happy Wednesday!

Can you believe there are only three days until Christmas? Are you panicking already? I am not completely in the Christmas mood, yet. I need to wrap the presents, clean the house as all the relatives are coming over for Christmas, set up the Christmas tree, do the groceries... When all this is done I will be a bit more relaxed and ready for the Holidays I hope.

Today is already day 21 of the Christmas Challenge which is entitled Reindeer or Rudolph. And as I promised yesterday, here is the full manicure you've seen parts of previously. While I drew Santa with his sleigh on my thumbs for yesterday's theme, I added the silhouettes of Reindeers to all the other nails so I hope it looks like a sleigh ride across a wintery sky. I even added a tiny Rudolph to this manicure - can you find him?! ;)

So sorry for the glitter all over my cuticles but this Hello Holo Topcoat just wouldn't come off my fingers...

Hopefully you enjoyed this one, too!
Have a great day and be sure to check out tomorrow's manicure which will be an Elf design.

24 Days Of Christmas Challenge - Day 20: Sleigh/Sled

Happy Tuesday!

I hope you're fine and enjoying the last days before the Holidays! Are you excited yet? I still have to work until the end of this week but I am really looking forward to Christmas.

Today's design was supposed to be sleigh or sled. Actually, this post will be just a little teaser for tomorrow's Christmas nail design, so I hope you'll be coming back for the full manicure tomorrow. But first things first, so here is my sleigh design.

Please excuse my wrecked thumb cuticle. Polishing every day plus the cold weather did a lot of damage to my poor cuticles. I think they really deserve a break after this challenge.

For this manicure I recycled yesterday's Essence Paparazzi background color by removing the acrylic paint. I then sponged on some white and added some sparkles with Essence Hello Holo and Catrice My Milkyway. Then I drew the silhouette of a sleigh with Santa and bag with black acrylic paint.

I hope you like this one! Hava a nice day,
- Sabine

24 Days Of Christmas Challenge - Day 19: Santa Hats

Good evening everyone!

I am back with some more Christmas nail designs - hopefully you enjoyed the cookies in the meantime!
Today's theme is Santa Hats. As a base color I picked Essence Top Speed Paparazzi, a polish that has been neglected for a long time. I think I bought it at least 5 years ago or so and I had to add two drops of thinner because it had thickened a bit. Paparazzi is a jelly-ish black base with silver and holographic microglitter - it's really pretty, don't know why I haven't worn this for so long.

The Santa Hats were done with acrylic paint. As a top coat I used Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer. Enjoy!

These photos are not doing Paparazzi justice because it is so much sparklier in person! I think I will write a seperate post on this one after the holidays :)

Have a great evening and please come back for tomorrow's nail design which will be sleigh - and I have no clue what to do for this one, yet...

24 Days Of Christmas Challenge - Day 18: Cookies instead of Stockings

Hi everyone!

I know you came here because of the Christmas Nail Art for the 24 Days Challenge but today I have to disappoint you. I am sorry but this is the first day I couldn't manage to pain my nails and blog about it :( Life can be crazy sometimes and with Christmas just around the corner work is piling up and so many things need to be done before the end of this year. Until today I've tried so hard to squeeze in a new nail design so I could show you a new Holiday manicure every other day but this weekend it simply didn't work out the way I had planned.

Yet I've been quite a busy bee today as I've prepared lots of cookies which my family will get along with their Christmas presents. So I thought instead of showing you a stockings nail design I might as well show you some yummy cookies here :) And please ignore my not so yummy kitchen floor, haha.

Those are Vanilla Bars, Cinnamon Star Cookies (veeeery popular over here in Germany), Chili-Coconut Balls and some Lemon Hearts. I do hope those make for a good substitute today :D

I try to be back with some more nail art tomorrow so stay tuned for the few more designs that are yet to come!

Thanks for visiting my blog, have a great evening and hope to see you tomorrow!

24 Days Of Christmas Challenge - Day 17: Garland/Tinsel

Hi ya!

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you're enjoying your weekend so far! I will go hunting for the last few Christmas presents today and cross your fingers that I will find everything!

The theme for today's Christmas Manicure is Garland or Tinsel. OK, so how to put tinsel onto your nails? Good question! Call me uninspired but this time I had no clue what to do so I simply slapped on two coats of China Glaze Glittering Garland from their recent Holiday collection. So that is a garland on my nails, right?! And it really is a pretty polish, this dark forest green with a golden green duochrome-y glitter. Yummy!

That's it for today, just a quickie post as I'm heading to the city center for shopping now! Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

24 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 16: Lights

Good evening everyone!

Well, seems like against all expectations I am posting today, too. When I came home after 10 hours of work today I really wasn't in the mood to do my nails and write a post but then I thought I just can't miss a day of this nice challenge. So here I am :)

Today's theme is lights and I thought quite a while about how to do this manicure. I've seen those typical Christmas Light design a couple of times and although I like them I wanted to do something different. Well, due to lack of time this evening I simply put China Glaze Snow Globe over Glittering Garland. I haven't used both polishes since I got them and was looking forward to trying Snow Globe! And what can I say, I just love this multicolored mylar glitter (is it even mylar glitter? Or how do you call this?)! Somehow its colors remind me of the Northern Lights way up North in Scandinavia - a place I'd really love to see one day! ... Enough of day dreaming, here's the manicure!

And with this I am directly heading to bed. Good night everyone, have a great Friday evening and an awesome weekend!

24 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 15: Presents

Hi y'all!

This is just a quick post tonight because I'm feeling really tired. There's so much to do at work, so many things need to be done before Christmas - it's exhausting.

Today's theme is presents and for this I did sort of a tape-free hand design.

The colors I used are all from the China Glaze Holiday 2011 collection: Ring In the Red, Glittering Garland and Blue Year's Eve. What can I say, I looove these polishes and I'm sure I will use them again soon :) The bows were done with a black and silver nail art painter.

Like I said, only a quick post for today. Hope you enjoyed it anyway!

24 Days of Christmas - Day 14: Ornaments

Hi there!

Hope all is well! Today I show you the 14th design of the Christmas Challenge wich is Ornaments. This is the first manicure I used acrylic paints for. On lots of nail art tutorials I've seen people using acrylic paint instead of nail polishes and thought it would be worth a try.

For this manicure I applied three thin coats of Essence Rich & Pretty before drawing the ornaments with red and green acrylic paint. With a silver striper I added the hangers and again used ocre acrylic paint to add some bows.

Have you ever used acrylic paint for nail designs? Those were easy to control, very opaque and dried quickly. They dry matte but I added a top coat anyway. The only disadvantage it that they don't level out after application but leave a slightly bumpy surface. I surely will try acrylic paints again for nail art!

Be sure to have a loook at Shannara's and Bridget's Ornaments as well!

24 Days of Christmas- Day 13: Christmas Tree & I hit 100 followers!!

Good evening everyone!

First of all I would like to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU because my blog reached 100 followers via GFV - wowza! That's so cool. I really appreciate your interest in what I am doing and I love reading all your kind comments on my posts! So here's a special little shoutout to my 100th follower Shang. She also has a pretty beauty blog where she shows swatches of make up products as well as nail polish and nail art. You can check it out here: feminine-art.

Now on to today's Christmas-y nail art. The theme was Christmas Tree and for this I tried my very first tape mani ever! After seeing this cute winter scene from Jane from Nailside I decided it was time to try something with tape as well. This is what came out in the end.

I started off with three coats of MNY 761 and the accents were done with OPI Glow Up Already. Taping didn't seem to be too hard but after removing it my christmas tree looked crooked... Guess it needs a little more practice ;) I still like the design which is a combination of a dark shimmery forest green and lots of bling at the tips.
I am sure this won't be my last tape manicure ;D

Thanks for reading,
- Sabine

24 Days Of Christmas - Day 12: Holly

Good afternoon

and welcome to day 12 of the Christmas Nail Art Challenge! Wow - Day 12. That's halfway through the challenge already.
Today's design is Holly and my interpretation looks like this.

I started off with one coat of Alessandro Pro White French. I then sponged Essence Style for Summernights onto the tips of my nails. Afterwards I applied one coat of the Essence Love Top Coat all over the nail to add a nice rosé shimmer. The Hollies were done with a dotting tool and a toothpick and the colors I used are Essence Red-y To Go and Matte Tip Painter Green Grass. Here's a close-up where you can see the shimmer and the foil-y silver tip :)

Now I am heading to my institute's Christmas party - which means lots of food, chatting and the organizers still have some suprises for us. Will be fun I guess :)
I hope you enjoyed this post and hope you come back for tomorrow's which is Christmas Tree.

24 Days Of Christmas Challenge - Day 11: Wreathes

Happy Sunday everyone!

It's hard to believe that today is already 3rd advent and Christmas is just two weeks ahead. I'm slowly getting into that Christmas mood, mainly because of this nail art challenge as I'm looking at those holiday designs all the time. And I even already got all the presents for friends and family so I hope to avoid the typical Christmas stress shortly before the holidays.

Today's design is wreathes - or in my case wreath as I did only one as an accent nail ;)

The base color I used is Maybelline Colorama Beige Love. This polish is actually pretty old and I haven't used it in quite a while - after I applied it I remembered why: It's pretty brush strokey and has a slight frost finish. After it had tried it looked a little better. The good thing was I needed only one coat for full coverage and it dried quickly. To make the wreath with the bow I used only Essence products (but that was just a coincidence ;D): Matte Tip Painter Green Grass from the I Love Berlin LE, White Tip Painter, Silver Surfer Tip Painter and Color and Go Red-y To Go as well as Tip Painter Mysterious Black. I finished everything off with a coat of Seche Vite.

I really love this challenge although I never thought I could do so many free hand nail designs... but it's so much fun and I enjoy looking at all the other pretty Holiday designs. So please go and see Bridget's and Shannara's wreathes, too.

That's it for today. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and I'll see you tomorrow for the next design which is Holly!

24 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 10: Poinsettias

Hello everyone!

Are you enjoying your weekend? I am and this time I finally found the time to do a water marble design for you! Today's theme is poinsettias and for this one I was inspired by a tutorial from MySimpleLittlePleasures again. Instead of the typical green and red, which I've used quite a lot for previous Christmas designs, I chose a light and a dark purple for my water marble design.

Since the sun was shining brightly today I went outside to take my pictures instead of using my lightbox.
The shimmery lavender purple is P2 Color Victim 017 Elegant and the dark shimmery purple is L'Oreal Resist & Shine Titanium 733 and both worked well for water marbling. For my pinkie and middle finger I drew the design a bit too large so I only ended up with parts of the poinsettia leaves on my nails. My ringfinger is actually my favorite nail where you can see three smaller leaves.

You can also see the nicely red toned shimmer in L'Oreal 733 while P2 Elegant has a more subtle fuchsia shimmer to it. And here is another photo of what the design looks like in shade.

I enjoyed creating this design. Too bad I have to remove it soon to make space for tomorrow's Christmas nail art which will be Wreathes.

I hope you're coming back for this one! Have a great day,
- Sabine

PS: Please go and see Bridget's and Shannara's Poinsettia designs, too, as those ladies are going through this challenge with me :)
