Fall Favorites Series Part 9: Orly - Stone Cold

Hello everyone!

I can't believe it is the end of November already. That means Christmas time is just around the corner and still I haven't even thought about presents and stuff. Yesterday I finished decorations in our appartment but still I am not in the right mood for the upcoming holidays.

Anyway, I'm still focusing on Fall nail polishes and today I have another favorite of mine. It is Stone Cold from Orly's Mineral FX collection 2011. Actually I like all the shades from that collection but this one stands out for me because it is such a vibrant sparkly blue.

Stone Cold is a blue jelly base with some flakie-like glitter particles of different sizes. They're not like the flakies in Fowl Play for example but it's not your usual regular sized glitter either. If you look at the pictures I hope you know what I mean.

This was three coats of Stone Cold but if you do thicker coats I think you could get away with two so coverage is pretty good. Application was a dream - neither thin nor think and so easy to control, I hardly had any clean up to do around my cuticles! And isn't this color just gorgeous?! I am in love with that blue! And at certain angles it slightly flashes turquoise. I heard some people had issues with stainings after removal but after taking it off I couldn't see any blue stains on my nails. Maybe because I used a rather thick coat of base coat?!

As a base coat I used P2 Total Repair which is meant to be a treatment after removal of artificial nails but I like to use it as a treatment and base coat. As a top coat I applied the Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer which works well as a regular top coat.

I am sorry for this huge amount of photos in this post but IMHO this polish is so pretty I couldn't break it down to only one or two pictures :)

The polishes from the Mineral FX collection are a bit more expensive than the usual Orlys. I got mine in a custom purchase from a MUA member and she got those at Sally Beauty for $9 per 18ml bottle. You can also get them at Ulta and several e-tailers such as

I hope you enjoyed this polish! Or do you prefer the classic darker vampy shades for Fall? I personally like to lighten up the gloomy days with some brighter color like this one.

Have a great Monday and thanks for reading,
- Sabine
