Recap: Favorite Nail Art Designs Of 2012

Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

As I promised yesterday, before the year 2013 will be upon us, I want to share with you my favorite nail art manicures I did this past year. I picked only five, because I haven't done a terrible lot of creative designs this year (I love nail art, but I wish I was more talented and less of a perfectionist, lol). So without further ado, let's have a look at my picks.

First up is the Spooky Forest design I wore on Halloween this year. This is probably my favorite nail art project of this year. I just love the combo of newspaper nails, sponging and freehanding and for the first try in newspaper nails, these came out really nice I think.

Another Halloween design that I enjoyed creating and wearing a lot was the Jack'O Lantern drag marble manicure I showed you during my Spooktober series.

Another design I want to show you again is the "Pow" manicure I did following a tutorial from the Wah Book Of Nail Art (which is definitely worth checking out if you're interested in nail designs).

Of course I also had to add my very first gradient manicure to my top 5 list. This one reminds me of summer, sunset and tequila sunrise.

And last but nor least, how can it be, I had to add my beloved Floam gradient design to the list. I just love gradient manicures and I adore Floam, so the two together are just so much fun to look at :D

So that was my personal recap of 2012 as far as nail polish is concerned. 2012 has been an exhausting but great year for me and now I am eagerly waiting for the things to come in 2013 (I have to change jobs and I am curious where it will take me). So to all of you out there, thank you so much for your support and kind comments as well as various chats on Twitter and IG. I have "met" so many wonderful people through blogging and it is safe to say that the nail art community rocks! May the upcoming year hold lots of good things for you and your loved ones.
Have a great New Year's Eve and see you next year :)

Recap: My favorite nail polishes 2012

Happy Sunday peeps!

The year 2012 is about to end pretty soon, but before this year is over, I want to share with you some of my most loved nail polishes in 2012. They weren't all released this year, but I got them in 2012, so for me that counts ;) I had a hard time narrowing it down to a reasonable number, so I decided to devide these pictures into two posts. Today I have for you my 12 top picks in nail polishes and tomorrow I am going to show you my top 5 nail art designs I liked most this year.
For more pics and info, read on after the jump (better grab a cup of coffee, this might take a little longer!).

Christmas Skittle Nails - Happy Holidays!

Hello everyone!

Christmas is finally here and I wish all of you and your family a peaceful Christmas season. Amidst your busy schedule, take a break, relax and enjoy!

For the Holidays this year I decided to go with a skittle manicure, including a candy cane and Christmas tree design as well as some dots and of course one of my beloved Floam polishes :)

Pre-Christmas nails with Ninja Polish - Candy Cane Floam

Happy fourth advent everyone!

I find it unbelievable that tomorrow is going to be Christmas Eve. Where did the year 2012 go? To me, it just flew by way to fast. But usually I am looking forward to the Holidays as they mean spending time with the family and a few relaxing days. I also love Christmas-y decorations and food as well as getting gifts for others. Of course I also love Christmas themed manicures and as you might know by now, I fell in love with the Holiday collection 2012 from the independent nail polish seller Ninja Polish. I already showed you Sapphire Dreams and Shattered Star as well as No Peeking!. Today I have for you another favorite from this collection. It is Candy Cane Floam, which "as part of the Floam polish family, contains fine red and white matte glitters."

Pre-Christmas Nails: Ninja Polish - No Peeking! and China Glaze - Merry Berry

Happy Friday everyone

and it is good to see all of you are still alive and well. Seems like the Maya were wrong predicting the end of the world. So well all live to see another day - and another Christmas-y manicure :D Today I decided to go with China Glaze Merry Berry from their recent Holiday collection. As an accent nail I used another polish from my beloved Ninja Polish Holiday collection named No Peeking!.

Ninja Polish Holiday Collection - Sapphire Dreams & Shattered Star

G'day my dear reader!

I am slowly getting in the Holiday season mood. I baked a truckload of cookies today, which is kind of my personal tradition to get me in the spirit for Christmas. Plus friends and family like to receive some selfmade gifts ;) Do you have all your presents together? I just need a few small things, but every year it gets harder to find something for the beloved ones.
One thing I got myself for Christmas this year is the Ninja Polish Holiday collection. I accidentally stumbled upon this collection while browsing their website. I was immediately drawn to these 10 polishes. I could not find any swatches of them, but they looked so pretty in their bottles, that I decided to just order them all. The first two I want to share with you today are Sapphire Dreams and Shattered Star. The first is described as "a metalic deep blue and covers opaque easily in 2 coats". It is a jelly blue base loaded with shimmer particles and flecks. To get it opaque and even, I used two thin coats. It dried a bit dull, but one layer of topcoat made everything nice and shiny again.

China Glaze - Frostbite topped with Barry M. - Jewel Britannia

Happy Monday gals,

I hope all of you had a great weekend! I did, even though it was pretty exhausting. On Friday I was officially awarded my PhD, which means I am finally done with studying (at least I hope so) and there will be no more exams in my life - ever. Yay! Needless to say I was pretty excited for this day to come. Preparations for the big party afterwards kept my quite busy throughout Wednesday and Thursday. I have never cooked such giant pots of soup before, but there were around 50 people that had to be fed. But in the end it was a great day, all of my family, friends and co-workers were there to celebrate with me. Sadly all these preparations kept me from blogging and painting my nails throughout this last week :( Initially I had planned to do a very special manicure for the ceremony, but I just didn't find the time to do it. I ended up going there with nothing but Nail Magic treatment on my nails. But now I have a few days off before Christmas, which means I will have plenty of time to play with Christmas designs, so stay tuned for that!

Today I have a manicure I wore earlier last week and that I liked a lot, so I wanted to share it with you. In my previous post I showed you China Glaze Frostbite, one of my favorite blue nail polishes for Winter. After two days, there was a bit of tip wear, but I didn't want to take it off. So I decided to layer Barry M. Jewel Britannia over it.

Winter is here! China Glaze - Frostbite

Good evening everyone,

this past weekend we had the first bit of snow for this winter. I am not a huge fan of snow, because usually traffic breaks down quickly here and having to go to work in this weather is super annoying. But snow also means it is the perfect time to pull out China Glaze's Frostbite. This gorgeous shade of blue has been on my wishlist for a long time. When I went to NYC back in April, I finally found it at Ulta and had to carry it home with me. It is one of my favorite blues, so bright and glowing. But see for yourself:

Essie - Head Mistress

Good evening everyone

and happy Friday! I hope all of you had a great week and have even better plans for the weekend. I desperately need to do some Christmas gift shopping this weekend, because I do not have a single present, yet. I don't really like shopping on weekends during December, because the city center is crowded. My city has a quite famous Christmas fair that is visited by thousands of tourists every day. That makes shopping quite stressful, but sadly I do not have the time to do it during the week. Well, at least I can have a mulled wine while I am there ;)

Today I have for you another red manicure. I do not know about you, but a nice red on my nails makes me feel feminine and sexy, lol. It just has to be the right kind of red that suits my super pale skin tone. Essie's Head Mistress from the Stylenomics collection for Fall 2012 is such a red. It might not be the most unique shade in the world, but that doesn't make it any less pretty.

#PolishDays - Bling!

Hi gals!

It is that time of the month again! Here is another round of the Polish Days series, where lots of nail polish bloggers team up and create manicures inspired by a certain topic and publish them on every first Tuesday of the month.

December's theme is Bling!, which leaves a lot of room for ideas. Still I had a tough time coming up with a creative idea, so I ended up picking my favorite red nail polish Perceval from a-England and did an accent nail with OPI's Crown Me Already, which is very bling-y I think ;)

Since we're in the Holiday season, red is the perfect color to show off. At first I wanted to add some rhinestones, but I felt like this would be over the top, because Perceval itself is really vibrant and eye catching. So I went for a sparkly silver glitter accent nail instead. Crown Me Already is dense enough to be worn on its own and stands out nicely against the red. To me this combo even looks elegant and classy, so I would definitely wear this for the Christmas dinner with the family ;)

I hope you liked this simple but pretty manicure. I cannot wait to see what everyone else comes up with!

Have a great day,
<3 Sabine

Happy Sunday lovelies,

I hope you're all well! I am sitting here wrapped up in a blanket and sipping some hot tea while typing up this post. I caught a cold, probably got it from a co-worker who has been sick for a week. My immune system also might not be the best after these stressful weeks, but I hope it wins the battle against the invaders rather sooner than later. I just hate blowing my already sore nose all day and the tired and weak feeling that comes with colds.
Still I wanted to get this post up today, because the lovely Danny from Polish Chest has tagged me for the OPI ♥ tag a while ago already and I wanted to take part in this, because I just love OPI (how can you not?! :D).
So for the questions and my answers and some pretty bottle spam continue reading after the jump!

Kiko - 400 Steel Grey from the Lavish Oriental LE

Hi gals,

today I have another plain manicure to share with you. After all the nail art I did for Spooktober, I decided it was time for some "simple" nails again. There were just so many untrieds piling up in my Alex that needed to be worn. One of them was No. 400 Steel Grey, a linear holo nail polish that was released as part of Kiko's Lavish Oriental Limited Edition for Summer this year.

GOSH - 549 Holographic Hero (new version)

Happy humpday everyone,

and thank you so much for all the congratulations for my exam, I feel the love :D

Today I want to share with you a polish I got in a swap with the lovely Hannah from PollyPolish. Kudos to her for hunting this down for me! This is the new version of GOSH's Holographic Hero, a silver linear holo nail polish. I missed out on their previous version, mainly because my love (ok, let's face it, it is more an obsession) for nail polish wasn't as pronounced back then and second, because GOSH is a UK brand that is not available here. So I do not know if this Holographic polish is any different from its predecessor, but I love the current one!

I am back aka I passed my final exam

Hi everyone,

I cannot believe it has been more than three weeks since I published my last nail post. Seems like I completely lost my feeling for time and space while I was busy studying for my thesis defense. I haven't even painted my nails in weeks, which normally feels weird, but those last couple of days I did not really care about my nails and I guess a break from nail polish remover doesn't hurt either ;)
In the end, all these deprivations and stressful times were worth it, because I finally passed my thesis defense last Wednesday! I was really nervous, because I wanted this last exam of my life (at least I hope it is) to be as good as possible. It didn't turn out as perfect as I had hoped, mainly because I was super nervous and I could hardly focus so I didn't come across too professionally and self confident, which is still kinda bugging me because the questions they asked really weren't that hard. I have no clue what mark they gave me, but I don't really care, I am just glad I passed and all this pressure is gone now. So now I am simply enjoying the few days off before I will go back to work on Monday.
So for all the fellow PhD students out there: hold on, you can make it, even if it may seem impossible sometimes ;) And thanks to everyone out there for your kind support, lovely words and crossed fingers and toes! It was also nice to see this blog growing even if I haven't posted anything those last three weeks. So welcome to the new readers, there will be more nails soon!

xoxo, Sabine

PS: I just came across this comic from PhD comics, which is so true (except for my thesis committee only consisting of the first three members ;) )

The "no #PolishDays for me" post & mini-hiatus

Hi gals,

today is another round of Polish Days, yay! Sadly I did not manage to schedule a post for today. I didn't even find the time to paint my nails with a MANicure :( I will be out of town for the rest of the week to attend a scientific meeting in the very East of Germany in a city called Leipzig. And before that I have been too busy because my final exam for my PhD is coming up fast. It is going to be on the 21st of November and I still have some serious studying to do. That is also the reason for me going on a mini blogging hiatus until then. I am so sorry, but I feel like that is a necessary evil, because passing this exam (which is the final step before I'll be awarded my PhD) with a good mark is top priority for me at the moment. I've been struggling and working hard for the past four years and now I am sooooo close to finishing, so I want to put all my energy into this "defense" (that's what the exam is called, because basically you have to defend your work in front of three professors and an audience). I hope you will understand, but I will be back in no time, I promise! I just love nail polish and blogging too much to stay away from it too long ;)

If you want to connect with me in the meantime, be sure to check my Twitter and/or Instagram. I will surely be around there.
So I hope you all enjoy this Polish Days event. Have a great week and see you soon!

Essence - Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 TE - Jacob's Protection

Hello everyone

and happy Sunday! I hope all of you had a nice Halloween. Since it is not a big thing here, I ended up watching DVD and reading blog posts ;)

The polish I want to share with you today is one of my favorite Essence polishes. It came out with their most recent Trend Edition which is inspired by the second movie of Breaking Dawn from the Twilight series. Honestly, I am not a fan of Twilight, neither the books nor the movies (if I had to choose I'd prefer the books though), but the promo photos of the products looked interesting so I had to check them out. It turned out that the polishes of this limited edition are the best Essence has released this year, at least in my opinion. OK, I skipped two of the polishes, namely A Piece Of Forever, which is a warm gold (and golds usually look horrible on me) and Edward's Love, a black with silver glitter (not the most unique color. I am sure the creator of these polishes is on Team Jacob since his nail polish is so much prettier, lol). The remaining two polishes however are really stunning! Today I show you the blue, which is called Jacob's Protection.

Happy Halloween! I'm celebrating with a Magical Forest on my nails

Happy Halloween my fellow readers!

It is finally here, this one day of the year where everyone dresses up, creates spooky pumpkin faces and enjoys trick or treating (or just attending a nice party). It is All Hallow's Eve! Are you having any plans for tonight? Halloween is not a big deal here, but I just love all the stuff related to it: creepy decorations and food, candy, costumes... So during all of October I've been posting Halloween themed manicures and for today, I wanted to do something different. So while browsing the internet I stumbled upon a YouTube channel called ProfessionalDQ and I was immediately drawn to it because her description reads "Insanely mental nail art", which sounded quite promising ;) So I watched several of her tutorials and could not take the eyes off of her Scary Fairy design. This mixture of sponging, free-hand and newspaper nail art is right up my alley and I thought this would make a pretty unique Halloween design. So I pulled out my polishes, sponges, stripers, tweezers and acrylic paints and made my own Scary Fairy nails for Halloween. For more info read on after the jump. But be warned, this is a picture heavy post, muahahahaha *evil laugh*

Spooktober: China Glaze - Ick-A-Bod-Y

Happy Tuesday gals,

I hope most of you had a fabulous start into this week. Though I am pretty sure some of you had not. I've been following the news since yesterday evening when the tornado Sandy hit land at the US east coast. This morning I woke up to seeing flooded streets, unrooted trees, cities without power supply and all the destruction Sandy had left behind. My thoughts are going out to everyone in the affected region. I have friends and fellow twitter pals in that area and I hope you're all well!

So, let's go on to happier things, like nail polish :D Halloween is just around the corner and there are only two designs left for this Spooktober series. Since my favorite Halloween collection ever is China Glaze's Awakening from 2010, one of those final two Halloween manicures had to be Ick-A-Bod-Y. This again is one of those fugly weird colors that I love so much.

Spooktober: The Spooky Bones Company - Blue-F-O

Happy Sunday everyone,

I hope you're all having a great weekend so far. I feel like winter is about to arrive soon in Germany. It's been freezing cold those last couple of days and in some parts of the country there already is snow. I hope snow will stay away from here for a little longer though. As much as I love winter and the coziness that comes with it, I do not like snow, because it means traffic snarl, late and crowded trains, which make commuting to work a pain in the butt (whoops, sorry ;) but that is how it is). So I am trying to inhale those last rays of sun and enjoy the beautiful Fall sceneries before the dark season will be upon us.

Oh well, let's go on to the polish part of this post. Today's Spooktober polish has been sitting in my stash for a while and while the color itself is not really spooky, the name is what made this one a Halloween appropriate nail polish. Here is Blue-F-O by the indie polish brand The Spooky Bones Company:

Spooktober: Blood Drip manicure

Happy Friday lovelies,

I hope you all had a great week! It's been a busy one for me and I am so happy that the weekend is upon us. That doesn't necessarily mean that I won't have anything to do (actually there are tons of scientific papers on my desk waiting to be read), but I just might take it a bit slower this weekend ;)

Today I have for you another Spooktober manicure that I've wanted to do for a while now. The design I aimed for was a simple Blood Drip manicure. I watched several videos on how to do this design but in the end I just did what I thought would look best. Well, it didn't turn out as realistic as I wanted it to be, but still I liked the final result.

Spooktober: Jack O'Lantern Drag Marble Manicure

Happy Sunday everyone!

Today I have for you a classical Halloween design. I love pumpkins, both as food (especially as soup, haha) and for decoration. And what would Halloween be without those creepy carved pumpkin faces?! They're the epitome of Halloween for me. So of course I had to do a Jack O'Lantern manicure for my Spooktober series. I decided to do the pumpkin face as sort of an accent nail and go with a simple drag marble on the rest of my nails.

Spooktober: Witch's Brew manicure

Hello everyone,

welcome to another spooky design for Halloween! A while back while browsing YouTube for some inspiration for nail art I came across a channel called Arcadia Nail Art and I fell in love with her Witch's Brew design (see the tutorial here). So I decided to recreate this design and share it with you.

Spooktober: The Spooky Bones Company - Jake And The Leprechaun

Hi everyone,

today I have for you a little layering for my Spooktober series. Actually this polish has been sitting in my stash for a while and Halloween is the perfect occasion to pull this out. It is Jake And The Leprechaun by an indie nail polish brand called The Spooky Bones Company. As their name suggests, they make polishes inspired by horror movies, the supernatural, books etc. When I read the names of their polishes I was immediately drawn to them and when I saw the unique types of glitter they used for their creations, I caved and ordered some. Let's have a look.

Spooktober - Candy Corn Clouds

Hello everyone,

I hope you are enjoying this Sunday. It is a lovely Fall day over here and I just returned from a walk. On my way I collected some chestnuts and it felt like I was a kid again, because I used to do that with my parents when I was young (not that I am that old now, lol).
Today I have for you another Halloween design, which is a Candy Corn manicure. Candy Corn is very popular in the States for Halloween. I myself have never tried it because it is not available here (so maybe you can let me know what it tastes like ;) ), but I just love the colors and how it looks. Instead of doing the regular striped design I decided to do a cloud manicure. This was my very first cloud design, but it is really easy to do and I like how it came out.

Spooktober: Glow In The Dark Ghosts

Happy Friday my dear readers,

recently I asked via Twitter what designs you wanted to see on my blog for my Spooktober series. Several requested a ghost themed manicure. Gladly I've wanted to do one anyway, because what would Halloween be without some ghosts?!
I thought ghosts would be a great opportunity to use some glow in the dark polish. Then I stumbled upon a ghost tutorial by IHaveACupcake on YouTube (*click here*) and decided to recreate her cute design.

Spooktober: #PolishDays - Sentimental

Hi lovelies,

it is time for another round of Polish Days, where several nail bloggers come together once a month to create manicures according to a certain topic. The theme is chosen by Hannah from PollyPolish who also organizes everything, so kudos to her!

This month's theme is "sentimental" and for a long time I had no idea what kind of manicure I could do for this. Then I rewatched some of MySimpleLittlePleasure's Halloween watermarbles for some inspiration for my Spooktober series.... and I remembered the time when I first got into nail polish and what made me start this blog. In my early days as a nail polish fanatic Colette's blog was one of the very first I came across and I've always adored her water marbling skills. Because of her I wanted to try this technique, too and thought I might as well share my first nail art attempts with the world wide web. So my first blog posts on My Polish Stash were water marbles inspired by her. Today I wouldn't even post these, because the result was soso (ok, let's face it, they were a disaster) and my cleanup and nail shape were horrible back then. Anyways, I thought a water marble reminding me of my first days as a nail polish blogger would make a great sentimental manicure for Polish Days.
To make this a Spooktober-suitable design, I chose to recreate her mummy manicure you can see here. I didn't have those cute rolling eyes Colette used, so instead I added some eyes with a dotting tool. I wish I had done them differently, because they look a bit out of place. Still I like how this turned out, but see for yourself.

Spooktober: China Glaze - Zombie Zest

Hi everyone!

Today I have for you my all time favorite Halloween nail polish. Please welcome China Glaze Zombie Zest! It was released as one of three polishes in the Awakening collection back in 2010, which probably is the best Halloween collection ever for me! Zombie Zest stands out for me because it is a glass fleck polish and it is one of those unique ugly, yet pretty colors. Think Butter London's Wallis or China Glaze's Trendsetter. The colors are weird, but that is why I like them so much :) Let's have a look at Zombie Zest now!

Introducing Spooktober! Fantasy Makers - Creepy Pumpkin

Happy hump day everyone!

Today is a public holiday here, which is German Unification Day, where people remember the German reunification back in 1990 when the Berlin Wall came down (which actually happened on November 9th 1989, but I am sounding nerdy here, am I?!). We do not do anything special on this day, no celebrations or anything - at least I don't, I simply enjoy a day off.
So I finally had some time to play with nail polish, edit photos and come up with some ideas for future manicures. In the end of this month there is going to be Halloween, which isn't a huge thing here, but I like all the stuff related to it, like creepy decorations or sweets. I've been thinking about what to wear on my nails for Halloween for a while now and have several ideas in my head. So I thought why just do one single manicure for Halloween?! Hence I decided to do several and post them throughout this month - Spooktober was born :D I really hope you will enjoy this little series.

Let us start this with a polish that has been sitting in the back of my Alex for a while now. It is Fantasy Makers by Wet 'n Wild Creepy Pumpkin, which came out last year for Halloween.

The Huntsman All Tied Up

G'day everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend! It is a wonderful sunny Sunday over here, a perfect Fall day. Today I have for you a manicure that reminds me of Fall as well. A while back I got All Tied Up from Essie's Summer collection Bikini So Teeny. This color doesn't really scream Summer for me and I think it is suitable for Fall as well. To spice it up a little I layered The Huntsman from the Essence LE Snow White over it.

Illamasqua - Scarab from The Art Of Darkness collection

Hi everyone!

Today I  have for you one of my first international polishes I got when my obsession for nail polish started. It is Scarab by the British make up company Illamasqua. The company itself describes this shade as a “deep ruby red with a metallic finish”. I wouldn’t call this finish metallic, but more an intense shimmer. The reddish-golden shimmer particles in the base color make Scarab glow from withtin. At certain angles the shimmer even looks a bit duochrome-y, shifting from red over orange to gold.

natural light
natural light

Scarab was originally released as part of the Art Of Darkness collection and is now part of Illamasqua’s core nail polish range. The polish is really pigmented and if you do thicker coats, I bet it can be perfect with just one coat. However, I did two thin coats here and finished it off with one layer of CND Speedey. Illamasqua’s products never fail to amaze me and Scarab is no exception. Its texture was really easy to work with. I love this nail polish, it is one of those perfect colors for Fall.

Illamasqua nail varnish retails for 13,50£ per bottle and is available directly on their website. And yes, they do ship internationally :) Sometimes Illamasqua products are on sale at, which also ships internationally.

That's it for today. Thanks for stopping by, have a great evening!

Anny - The Answer Is Love

Hi lovelies,

today I have another great Fall polish for you! It is my very first color from a German brand called Anny. I haven't really paid much attention to their display before, but then The Answer Is Love caught my eye. I was immediately drawn to the multichromatic shimmer in the bottle and this polish turned out to be a real chamaeleon, but see for yourself.

My first ziplock bag manicure feat. Manhattan - Green Chai, Essence - Miss Lavender and Essence - Pop Pastel Blue

Hi everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far! I am, because it is the first weekend after I officially submitted my PhD thesis. I'm feeling so relieved, even though I am a bit nervous. I'd like to know what the reviewers think, but I won't find out before I will be awarded my degree. And there still is this final exam ahead of me. Not looking forward to that. Oh anyways, let's talk nail polish rather than work!

Today I have for you my first attempt in a ziplock mani. If you have not heard about that, you basically make your own nail polish "stickers" by painting designs on a ziplock bag, peel them off and but them onto your nails. Sounds easy, huh. Well, it actually is. Bregje from Oooh, Shinies! made a great tutorial here.
When my Manhattan Green Chai mani (swatches on its own here) showed some tip wear, I decided to spice it up a bit with these ziplock nail stickers. I chose two pastel colors, Essence's Show Your Feet Polishes in Miss Lavender and Pop Pastel Blue (I know, those are meant to be worn on your toe nails, but why should they not work for finger nails as well ;)). Instead of the ziplock bag I used oven paper, as recommended by Chiro form Nail Of This Week. I let everything dry overnight. The stickers really came off easily. Before applying them onto the nails, I cut them with shaped scissors. Here is the final result.

Swatches & Review: Manhattan Blogger Edition Styleproofed - Green Chai (07S)

Happy Sunday everyone,

I hope you're all having a great weekend so far. Over here it seems like summer is back because it is close to 30°C outside with lots of Sunshine. The perfect Sunday weather :)
Nevertheless I've decided to stay inside and type this blogpost about a polish I felt I needed to show you as soon as possible.
Recently a German cosmetics brand called Manhattan teamed up with four fashion bloggers from Styleproofed and Modepilot and together they have created 20 limited edition polishes that were released in August. I was really excited about this collection because I thought that if bloggers created a nail polish line, it would surely be something extravagant. When I finally found the display I was a bit disappointed. First, the colors weren't as extraordinary as I had hoped. There were lots of your usual (Fall) colors - dark plum, dark navy blue, reds, brown or mustard yellow. Secondly, the finishes weren't exciting either. Most of them were creme polishes, the other half were shimmers.
Yet, two of them caught my eye and went home with me: 08M Rodeo Drive, a green that is somehwere between mint and olive with a subtle gold shimmer, and 07S Green Chai, a light mint green with multicolor glitter. The latter definitely stands out from the whole collection and I don't have anything like this in my stash, so I had to try it immediately. For a full review and more photos of Green Chai read on after the jump * little warning: this might be a wordy post, so better grab a cup of coffee and a snack ;) *

Spring revisited: China Glaze - Gothic Lolita

Happy Friday everyone,

I hope you had a great week! I did, because I finally finished my thesis, yay! So this weekend will be all about relaxing. Well, kind of. It is my boyfriend's birthday tomorrow and I have to bake a cake and clean the house. I am feeling so much better now that this part of my PhD is finally done. I enjoy painting my nails again. I really missed nail polish and blogging those last few months.
Today I have for you one of my favorite Spring polishes for 2012. It is China Glaze Gothic Lolita.

Polish Days - Polish Geometry

Hi everyone!

I am back for another round of Polish Days :). The theme was Geometry and I admit my manicure isn't very creative. I went with a simple tape manicure using three different Essence polishes from their Color & Go range.

Wait, did I just say "simple tape mani"?! Oh well, didn't turn out to be simple enough for me, lol. I sometimes removed the tape too late so the lines didn't come out is crisp as I wanted them to be *sigh* So I am really not happy with this manicure. But whenever I mentioned on twitter my manicure sucks, everyone else said they liked it, so I decided to post this anyway. I like the colors though. The lighter purple with gold shimmer is Break Through, the dark creme purple is Passion For Fashion and the dark green creme is Trust In Fashion. Also the polishes I picked weren't perfect for tape manicures, because they aren't one coaters so you either have to apply a thick coat or two thin coats (which again results in messed up lines).

See what I mean? I'm feeling kind of on the fence about posting this manicure because it isn't as perfect as I like my nails to be. But in the end, who is perfect?! So please bare with me, there will be nice manicures again next time ;)

Now I am going to have a look at all the other Polish Geometry designs.
Have a great evening,

Cult Nails - Toxic Seaweed over Butter London - British Racing Green

Happy Thursday everyone!

Today I have for you a gorgeous polish from Cult Nails. I haven't really heard from that brand until Toxic Seaweed caught my eye. I saw it on several blogs and I instantly knew I needed this in my life! It's green, it has tiny glitter and multichrome flakies - what else does my nail polish loving heart need? Cult Nails' Divas & Drama collection was on pre-order at that time, so along with this collection I tossed Toxic Seaweed in the cart. Here is what it looks like.

I'm back, with Butter London - British Racing Green on my nails.

Hi everyone!

Here I am, back again... Anybody else thinking of that Johnny Cash song right now!? Anyways. Yesterday I finally sent my thesis to my PI so he can have a final look. Keep your fingers crossed that he is ok with it. Then I can finally print it and submit it :D I never thought I'd see the day... Those last three months were so stressful but I hope it will be worth it in the end.
So I finally have some time to blog again. I really missed typing posts and writing my thesis didn't leave me enough time to paint my nails so they have been naked for... I don't know, at least 6 weeks or so?! So first of all thanks to all my readers for sticking with me during this busy and "post-free" period. And welcome to my new readers who found their way here despite my absence! I am not completely done with studying because I still have to pass one final exam, but reading books for this should leave me enough time for blogging.
So today I have for your one of my all-time favorite greens. It is British Racing Green from Butter London. I love love love that color! If I can ever afford a brand new car I'd want it to be exactly this color, lol.

Just a quick update

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since my last post again. But I am still here! Sadly I did not have a lot of time lately to paint my nails or post the manicures I already did. It is only one more week before I have to submit my thesis to my professor and I still have quite a few things to do. Editing and formating isn't fun, I can tell you! Hopefully I will be back as soon as possible! I will submit my thesis on Monday, then my PI needs some time to read it and I hope there won't be any complaints or needs for further corrections. If he's ok with my work I can FINALLY go to the copy shop and print it. Most of the work will be done by then. Afterwards I "just" need to pass the final oral exam, but I hope I can find the time to blog in between learning sessions.

On a different note: thanks again for all your lovely comments on my Polish Olympics manicure. I had so much fun creating it and seeing all the other fabulous designs. Guess what, I even won the silver medal. Wow, never expected to win anything so I was super happy when I heard this! Thanks a lot to Hannah from PollyPolish, the organizer of Polish Days.

And even more happy news: a few days ago my blog hit 400 followers! So many of you, thank you thank you thank you! As I said before, I will be back to regular posting soon so in the meantime I hope you enjoy my previous work ;)

That's it for now, have a great Sunday and see you all soon!

Polish Days Vol. 3 - Polish Olympics

Hi everyone!

Yes, I am back! I have been absent for far too long! Most of you might already know that I am currently writing my PhD thesis, which does not leave a lot of time for polishing nails or blogging. I am not yet completely done with my thesis. The first draft is finished and now I have three more weeks for corrections before I have to submit my thesis. So I am still busy but I wanted to participate in Polish Days so badly that I decided to squeeze in a day for nail art and blogging.

My first two attempts were massive failures and I am not 100% happy with the result of trial #3, but I hope you will like my contribution for #PolishOlympics anyway :)

I am still around here!

Happy Saturday my dear reader!

This is just a short post to let you know I am still alive and I apologize for the lack of posting these days! I am still painting my nails and I also take pictures of them but I just can't find the time to post them, even though I'd love to do that. I am still working on my PhD thesis which I have to submit by the end of August. However, my PI is going on holiday in the beginning of August so I have to submit everything by the end of this month for correction. Yay - not, as it means some night shifts to get this done. I just wished he would have informed me about his plans to go on holiday earlier. Anyways, all in all this means I do not really have time for anything else besides writing my thesis and I am very sorry about neglecting my blog for a while.

As soon as I have submitted my thesis things will be back to normal! Thanks everyone for sticking around! I will still post regularly on my Twitter or Instagram (username mypolishstash) so you can follow me there for recent updates.

Have agreat weekend and talk to y'all soon!
