Butter London - The Black Knight

Hi everyone!

I hope it is warm where you are. Here it's been freeeeezing cold for the last couple of days and weatherforecast says it'll get even colder by the end of this week. Yikes. Too bad that I'm someone who feels cold quickly and I can't stand frosty temperatures at all. I better have a hot cup of tea and cuddly blankets within reach the next days.

Today I have for you The Black Knight by Butter London. This was released as part of their Holiday 2011 collection and even though it was pricey I had to buy it. I mean it is black, it has glitter... what else do I need?

The black base is neither a creme nor a real jelly but something in between I'd say. The glitter is mostly pink and blue but I can also see some green and silver particles in there and there might be more colors that I haven't identified yet. The glitter has different sizes and really stands out against the black.

The Black Knight's formulation however was a bit weird. It was thick but managable. My first coat was very streaky and seems like I applied the second coat too soon as I ended up with dragging and bald spots so I used a thick third coat to even everything out and get it opaque. It dried quickly which I liked. The finish was a bit dull and gritty so I added two coats of CND Speedey but still the surface wasn't completely smooth. As much as I like this polish I was disappointed that it came chipping off after 24 hours - which is probably because of the thick coat I did.

I got my bottle of Butter London The Black Knight from BeautyBooth.com where they retail for £12.00. In Germany Butter London polishes are available exclusively at Douglas perfumeries for 16,95€ each and in the US you can get them at ULTA and Nordstrom for $14.

What do you think of this one? Would you spend that much money on a polish in general?

Thanks for reading,
- Sabine

  1. Wow, TBK had been a bit of a lemming for me but I'm a bit put off by the apparent grittiness of the finish. So the quest for a black based glitter continues. *le sigh*

As for how much is too much to spend on a bottle of polish, I've spent far more than that. I guess it comes down to whether you think it is good value. The BLs do seem a bit overpriced for what they are. Compare to a brand like Nubar which is great quality but very reasonably priced. Plus you get a decent sized bottle!:)
