[Swatches & Review] P2 Sand Style Polish - 050 Confidential

Hi everyone!

Today I am jumping on the latest nail polish trend's band wagon. We already had mattes, holographics, crackles, fish eggs, magnetics, indie glitters... you name it. 2013 seems to be the year of the sand finish polishes.
Everything started when OPI came out with their Mariah Carey collection in late 2012, that included glitter polishes that were meant to be worn without top coat. They're supposed to have a matte, yet sparkly finish. While I liked some of the colors, I did not like the thought of leaving my nail polish gritty, so I passed on them. Then Nails Inc. came out with their Leather Effect polishes, which also have a slightly bumpy finish. Kiko added gritty glitters to their collection called Sugar Mat, that are available in a creme and a shimmer finish. The next brand that will release sand style polishes is China Glaze with their Texture collection.
So sand paper seems to be the next best thing to wear on your nails. I was on the fence about the finish and didn't want to spend much money on a polish I wasn't sure I would even like at all. Then the German drugstore brand P2 added Sand Style polishes to their standard range and guess who caved and got one? Right! I chose color 050 Confidential. This deep dusty blue color was the only shade that really spoke to me, the others were too baby pink for my liking.

The deep blue jelly-ish base of 050 Confidential is loaded with fine blue, green, purple, pink and silver glitter. I was really surprised how much coverage it offered in one coat. I only needed two to get it completely opaque. I liked the formulation of this polish, it was easy to apply and dried fast. I skipped a protective top coat, as this would defeat the purpose of this polish. I didn't expect it to last very long, but in fact I got four days of wear out of it without any cracks or chips. There was just minor tip wear. Call me impressed! And the finish? It wasn't as gritty and chunky as I had expected. It felt more like medium grit sand paper, but not bad at all. The polish also wasn't super matte. In fact, the glitter is pretty sparkly when hit by sunlight, which added more dimension to the polish instead of just looking flat (like the China Glaze Textures do for example). But do I like the finish? Well, I still cannot say for sure that the Sand Style will be "my" nail trend for 2013, but I'll definitely have a closer look at other brands' creations.

Final verdict: This polish definitely is one of the best P2 polishes I have tried in a long time! For 1,95€ for a 11ml bottle you cannot go wrong. So if you're unsure about the sand style trend but want to try it without spending a lot of $$$, give this a go! P2 is available in DM drugstores across Germany.

What do you think about the sand paper feel on your nails? Take it or leave it?

That's my two cents for today, hope you liked it and I hope to see you again soon!
