Today is the first day of Summer, yay :D And right on time, it's been hot and humid those last couple of days here (around 95°F/35°C). Last night then we had a massive thunderstorm (including a flooded basement, not fun) and now temperatures have dropped to 66°F/19°C. I really love summer, but I very much prefer temperatures around 77°F/25°C, when your make up doesn't melt off your face as soon as you leave the house, lol.
Anyways, today I have for you swatches of my very first KB Shimmer polish called What's Your Damage?. Since I have heard so many people rave about this indie nail polish brand, I couldn't wait to try it myself. So during their last restock at Harlow & Co. I got three polishes from the new Summer 2013 collection: The Dancing Green, Pimp My Pride and What's your Damage?, which I'll be showing you now.
What's Your Damage? is an off-white crelly base with neon pink and green glitter in various shapes. It also contains black hexes, circles and shreds. Usually I am not so keen about shredded glitter, but here it is sparse enough so it doesn't bother me. What sadly did bother me was the way this polish went on. I decided to wear it on its own. The first coat was super patchy and I could hardly get any glitter onto my nails. It just wouldn't come off the brush, so I had to fish for it and dab the pieces onto my nails. Dabbing really worked better than brushing the polish on, because brushing resulted in wiping the glitter right off my nails again. Somehow I managed to apply three coats and get more or less even coverage. One coat of Seche Vite was all it took to get a nice smooth surface.
I really really want to love this polish, because I have been digging the "neon glitter in a jelly white base" lately and I love the colors of What's Your Damage?. However, due to the formula and the effort it takes to get a clean manicure with this, I cannot see myself reaching for this often. I will give this one a second chance though. I saw people wearing this over an opaque white base and I hope this will work better for me.
I will still try the other two KB Shimmers I got and hopefully these will perform better. If you want to check out their polishes, they're available on their website KBShimmer.com (no international shipping), Etsy (again, US shipping only) and Harlow & Co (international shipping). A full-size bottle retails for approx. $9.
Have you tried KB Shimmer polishes? If so, which is your favorite?
Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!
