Cherry Cheesecake Recipe

Happy Easter everyone!

I hope you all are having a chocolatey day and enjoying the holidays.
Instead of an Easter manicure (which I hope to post about tomorrow) I have for you my very first food post. Today, I prepared this Cherry Cheesecake for an afternoon with my parents in law. I just love cheesecake of all kinds and ever since I've been to New York City, I am addicted to their version of this sweet treat. I also love cherries, so both combined are perfection. If you want to know how to prepare this yummy cake, keep on reading after the jump!

OPI - DS Illuminate

Good evening everyone!

Happy Thursday. I am so glad this working week is a short one due to Easter. Do you have any plans for the Holidays? Tonight I am going to a concert and tomorrow my parents will visit us, because it's my birthday (gosh, am I really going to turn older again already?! Time flies by way too fast!). So lots of preparations for the Easter holidays are keeping me busy. Still I want to share with you my NOTD, which is OPI DS Illuminate, another polish I picked up during my stay in NYC but haven't worn before.

Springtime gradient with stamped flowers

Good evening!

First of all, a warm welcome to all the new readers who have found their way here via my 500 follower giveaway. It is so nice to read all your comments and suggestions on what to blog about and I will try to fulfill your wishes as long as they don’t exceed my capabilities :) The contest will be running for another 11 days, so I am open to more of your ideas!

Today I have a little nail art experiment to share with you. Since Spring has not really sprung over here (it is still around 0°C, brrr), I thought I’d create my own Spring scenery on my nails. So I went for a sponged gradient in Spring colors, but that alone looked a bit boring to me. I have always wanted to master the Konad stamping technique and I even got me an inexpensive starter kit from Essence. I’ve tried it a few times in the past, but never got the design right, so I gave up. For this Spring manicure, I chose to get my stamping kit out from the back of the drawer and give it another try. As much as I love the whole nail designs, I thought it would be easier to start out with something simple, like single flowers and butterflies. So here is what I ended up with.

New Layout & 500 follower Giveaway ~ CLOSED

Happy Sunday everyone!

Some time ago I told you I wanted to change the layout and name of my blog. While I decided to stick with the name, I managed to find a layout I really liked and a lovely lady was so kind as to tailor it to my needs. I wanted to keep it clean and simple and I hope you will enjoy My Polish Stash's new appearance! As you can see in the new header image, I've expanded from nail polish to make up and food, two other hobbies of mine. So there will be some posts on these things in the future, which I hope you will like as well.

To celebrate this new layout and the fact that I hit 500 GFC followers this weekend, I've decided to do a little giveaway and say THANK YOU to each and everyone of you! There aren't only 500 of you via GFC, but 200 followers via Bloglovin' and 30 via e-mail and Networked blogs. If I count the 670 Twitter followers and 1100 followers on Instagram, that makes a huge number I've never thought I'd reach. To be exact, that makes you 2501 followers in total. Holy guacamole! To celebrate, I have put together a few of my favorite things that I think you will like as well. If you want to know what it is and for more info on how to enter, read on after the jump :)

[Swatches] GOSH - #612 Galaxy

Good evening everyone!

Does it happen to you, too, that you make the best nail polish finds when you're just browsing the drugstore for nothing special? Happened to me last weekend again. We went shopping in the Netherlands, to a city called Enschede, where they have a huge farmer's market where I like to buy fresh fruits and veggies. As always, I went strolling the aisles of the local drugstore, but usually I do not buy anything, as things are more expensive than here in Germany. But they do carry a few brands we do not have here. And then a bottle in the Gosh rack caught my eye. It was Galaxy from their 2012 Fall collection. I have heard several people raving about this on Twitter, but never paid much attention to it. Then I saw it in person and I knew I needed this in my stash!

[Swatches & Review] P2 Sand Style Polish - 050 Confidential

Hi everyone!

Today I am jumping on the latest nail polish trend's band wagon. We already had mattes, holographics, crackles, fish eggs, magnetics, indie glitters... you name it. 2013 seems to be the year of the sand finish polishes.
Everything started when OPI came out with their Mariah Carey collection in late 2012, that included glitter polishes that were meant to be worn without top coat. They're supposed to have a matte, yet sparkly finish. While I liked some of the colors, I did not like the thought of leaving my nail polish gritty, so I passed on them. Then Nails Inc. came out with their Leather Effect polishes, which also have a slightly bumpy finish. Kiko added gritty glitters to their collection called Sugar Mat, that are available in a creme and a shimmer finish. The next brand that will release sand style polishes is China Glaze with their Texture collection.
So sand paper seems to be the next best thing to wear on your nails. I was on the fence about the finish and didn't want to spend much money on a polish I wasn't sure I would even like at all. Then the German drugstore brand P2 added Sand Style polishes to their standard range and guess who caved and got one? Right! I chose color 050 Confidential. This deep dusty blue color was the only shade that really spoke to me, the others were too baby pink for my liking.

On Google Reader & Blog Layout

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

You may or may not have heard that Google will be retiring their Reader service in July this year. I used this RSS feed service to follow a whole bunch of my favorite blogs and I am sad to see it go. But no need to worry, there are already some good alternatives out there!
I imported all my subscriptions to Bloglovin', which works just as nice and as a bonus has an app for reading on the go. You can find My Polish Stash on Bloglovin as well. I was told the service Feedly was another good option, too, but I haven't tried this one myself.
If you want to know what I am up to, you can also find me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram or visit my Google+ profile.

You also may have noticed that I changed my blog layout a bit. This simple design is just preliminary, as I am still working on a more custom layout for my blog. A while ago I asked, what you guys think about changing the name of this blog and posting non-polish content. After all the feedback and opinions I got from you, I've decided to stick with Blogger. Moving the whole thing to Wordpress is too much of a hassle, since I am not skilled at HTML or CSS. Secondly, I will also stick with the name of my blog and just add "& make up & recipe" in my tag line. These are two other well-loved hobbies of mine and I can't wait to share them with you. So stay tuned for some yummy treats and more eye candy ;)

Thanks for your support, I hope you're all having a great day!

Color Club - Hot Like Lava

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope all of you had a great week and will have an even better weekend. Do you have any plans? Since we're living close to the Dutch border, I am going to the Netherlands tomorrow to do some shopping. They have a huge market, where I love to buy fruits, veggies and fish. And there is a store that sells Inglot, where I hope to find their nail polishes.

But today I have for you one of my very few Color Club polishes. I don't know why, but somehow I never pay too much attention to their nail polishes. Most of their collections just do not speak to me. But Hot Like Lava from the Foiled collection is really a gem. I would have never worn that polish, if the lovely Hannah from Polly Polish hadn't sent me this one in a swap. So thanks for that!

Polish Days - Vintage

Hi lovelies!

It's about time for a new Polish Days event! I was really looking forward to creating a manicure for today's vintage theme, because I already had a particular design in mind. Well, this first idea was rather poorly executed and didn't come out quite the way I had imagined. So I went with plan B.
I don't know about you, but the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Vintage is that old flower pattern. My grandmother liked it, it was everywhere: pillow cases, curtains, even blouses and dishes. Most of the time there were roses involved, so of course these had to be part of my manicure. Another vintage design I adore are Polka Dots! Yes, polka dots are vintage as the pattern first came up in the 1850s ;) *nerd mode off* So my Vintage nail design for today are roses and polka dots.

I need your help!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Wowza, it's been almost a week since my last post. How could this happen? Well, firstly, this past week kept me busy with work and I did not really find the time to edit pictures and write posts. Secondly, I am working on a new blog layout or rather trying to find the perfect layout for this blog. And this is where you come into play ;) I could use your help concerning the blog's layout and its content.

First of all, I am asking myself it is worth moving this blog to a self-hosted Wordpress blog. I feel like Wordpress designs are more appealing to me and a self-hosted blog offers more flexibility. At the same time, I am sure it'll be more complicated to set up as I have only veeery basic HTML knowledge and no idea how to move my existing content to a new platform (I am slightly afraid of losing data). Maybe someone of you has experience with moving a blog and can give me some tips.

Second, I want a new layout so badly. I am just not happy with the way the blog looks now. I found a nice pre-made template HERE that I really like. I do feel that 100€ for a pre-made design is a bit too much though. This website HERE offers some pretty designs as well, but only for Wordpress.

And thirdly, in the course of re-vamping my blog, I thought about changing the name. The focus of this blog will always be on nail polish, but I would like to get a blog name that leaves room for other things I love and would like to blog about - such as baking, make up and other girly things ;) What do you think? The names I thought about so far are

The Girl Who Loves Colors
For The Love Of Color
My Colorful Life

The main questions I would like to get your opinion on are:
Would it be worth moving a Blogger blog to Wordpress?
What is a reasonable price for a pre-made blog template (nothing uber fancy, just the basic stuff like header, background, post dividers, sidebar, social icons etc.)?
Would you mind seeing posts about non-polish things on here?
What is your favorite blog name of the above? Or any other suggestions?

I really appreciate your help, so please let me know what you think :D
Thank you so much, have a great day!

Catrice - Shoppingday At Bluemingdales & L'Oreal Confettis

Happy Monday everyone!

Today I have a quick post for you, because I wanted to show you my NOTD. This past weekend I went drugstore shopping and picked up one of the new Catrice polishes. Thanks to Jeanette from The Swatchaholic, I also had to look out for L'Oreal's new top coat collection, because they released a black and white glitter topper with it. When I had Shoppingday At Bluemingdales and Confettis in my hands, I thought these two would make a great combo on my nails.

Swatches & Review: Essence - Witch You Were Here Magnetic Polish

Happy Friday everyone!

From time to time my nails need a fresh start. When I recently tore a nail on my right hand all the way down at the nail bed, it was the perfect time to cut down my nails. Usually I do not like to wear nubbins, because they make my fingers look even shorter than they already are. Short nails however do come in handy for some manicures, for example when I want to use magnetic polishes. Some magnets are just too small for longer nails and I cannot get the design on my whole nail. Last weekend I came across the new Essence display and found a new magnetic polish called Witch You Were Here. They also improved their magnet and the brand claims the effect was stronger compared to their old formulation. So I gave this a try and was really surprised and pleased by the result.
