New In My Stash - June 2013

Today is the last day of the month, so it is time for another "What's New In My Stash" post.
Since I've been a really bad girl last month, I decided to put myself on a no buy for the months of June and July. Needless to say it didn't work out. I just have no willpower, d'oh. But I am happy that I didn't go too overboard with my purchases. So still I will try to not buy anything nail polish or make up related next month! I have some Lush Lacquers on the way, but since I purchased them in June they don't count, do they?! So without much further ado, here are the items that moved into my stash this past month.

Bye Bye Google Reader

I - and I believe many of you, too - love to follow and read blogs via a so called RSS feed reader. What these little gadgets do is aggregate the latest posts from your website subscriptions into one long email or web-based article. That way, I can read the newest articles from my favorite blogs without having to actually visit all the different websites.
You probably know that as of July 1st, 2013, Google's RSS reader will be shutting down for good. This basically means, you will lose all your blog subscriptions if you don't move them to another reader. I wrote about this before, but since many people do things at the last minute (me included), I figured it might be that you haven't switched your RSS subscriptions over to something else.
So here again I have some suggestions for you.

I personally use and love Bloglovin'. It is free, easy to use and gives blogger pageviews (which wasn't the case with Google Reader if I'm informed right). Another plus for me is that they offer an app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, which comes in handy for reading blogs on the go. If you want to move your Google Reader subscriptions to Bloglovin', click here.

Another popular reader that's been around for a while is Feedly. It is also free and available as an app for Adroid and Apple mobile devices. For tips on how to import your subscriptions to Feedly, read their blog entry here.

A relatively new reader (at least new to me) is blog-connect.com. It easily lets you import your subscriptions and follow other blogs. However, it is available in German only.

And of course you can follow me via various social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest or Instagram, where I post updates frequently ;)

Thanks for reading, have a great day!

Review: Mont Bleu Nail Files

Good evening everyone!

Today I have something a little different for you. A few weeks back someone from the PR department of Mont Bleu contacted me, asking if I was interested in reviewing a few of their products. Mont Bleu is a Czech company based in Prague that produces "luxury crystal glass nail files, jewellry, bijoux, beauty accessories, gifts and souvenirs". Since I have heard good things about their nail files, I agreed to test drive some items. A few days later, a generous package with five of their products arrived: three different nail files, a pair of tweezers and a pair of crystal earrings.

KB Shimmer - What's Your Damage? Swatches & Review

Happy Friday everyone!

Today is the first day of Summer, yay :D And right on time, it's been hot and humid those last couple of days here (around 95°F/35°C). Last night then we had a massive thunderstorm (including a flooded basement, not fun) and now temperatures have dropped to 66°F/19°C. I really love summer, but I very much prefer temperatures around 77°F/25°C, when your make up doesn't melt off your face as soon as you leave the house, lol.

Anyways, today I have for you swatches of my very first KB Shimmer polish called What's Your Damage?. Since I have heard so many people rave about this indie nail polish brand, I couldn't wait to try it myself. So during their last restock at Harlow & Co. I got three polishes from the new Summer 2013 collection: The Dancing Green, Pimp My Pride and What's your Damage?, which I'll be showing you now.

Homa manicure with Essie Shake Your $$ Maker & Bottle Service

TGIF!

Are you excited for the weekend? I surely am! I don't have any specific plans so far, but I am always happy to have two days off - even though I probably should be working on that scientific manuscript I've been trying to finish for ages... Anyways, this weekend I will simply relax and enjoy myself!

This Spring I decided to add some color to my wardrobe as well. So I pulled out this neon pink knitted sweater I got from H&M recently. Call me crazy, but I always tend to match my nails to my clothes (or most of the time I pick my clothes according to the color on my nails). A neon sweater called for neon nails, so I went with Shake Your $$ Maker and Bottle Service from Essie's Neon collection and combined them in a so called Homa manicure.

Polish Days - To Boldly Go...

These are the manicures of the blogger, Sabine.
It's an endless mission.
To explore colorful new worlds.
To seek out new shades and new finishes.
To boldly go where no nail has gone before.

Welcome everyone,

to another episode of Polish Days, the monthly nail blogger series where we create manicures according to a theme that the lovely Hannah from Polly Polish chooses. And this month's theme is Sci-Fi. I've never been a Star Trek or Star Wars fan. I did watch the original Star Wars episodes with Harrison Ford and also saw most episodes of Enterprise, but that's about it.
But then, a favorite book of mine came to my mind - it might not really be sci-fi, but I've never been a fan of stereotyped thinking, either. That book is The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams. This book has been adapted into a movie in 2005, but I strongly recommend reading the books or watching the BBC series from the 70's (it's hilarious)! My first plan to recreate some images from the book cover failed horribly, so due to lack of time I went with something simple. This is Nerd Lacquer's Hyperspace Bypass, the reason the earth is blown to kingdom come and the start of the adventures of Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect. I mean the street, not the nail polish, although Nerd Lacquer is capable of creating quite some havoc, too ;)

Illamasqua - Speckle

Happy Friday everyone!

Today I have just a quick post for you, as I am as good as out the door. The weather has been really sunny and warm lately, so we're having a barbeque with friends this evening.
As so many requested swatches of it, here is Illamasqua's Speckle from their IMperfection collection. Speckle is a pastel lilac color with matte black hex and micro glitter.

Saran Wrap manicure using Models Own ICE Neons

Good evening everyone!

*studs were provided for review

It is finally getting warmer and sunnier here, so it's about time to pull out those colorful nail polishes. And what would be more appropriate than a bright neon color to pay homage to those first rays of sunlight? In my last "What's new in my stash" post I mentioned I got two of Models Own's ICE Neons and I thought these two combined would make a perfect Summer manicure. Using the two colors Pukka Purple and Pink Punch, I created my first Saran wrap manicure. Well, actually I didn't use Saran wrap, but fresh foil instead. The final result was almost blinding and fun to look at, but see for yourself :)
