Essie Encrusted Treasures LE ~ Belugaria

Yes, you read that right. Today I have swatches of Belugaria for you. Remember how in my USA haul post I said that I shortly thought about buying Belugaria at CVS, but quickly abandonned that thought!? I had seen swatches of it before and could only shake my head at them. Why would anyone want to wear something on their nails that looked like bituminization gone wrong? While I love textured polishes, this black base with the tiny round beads and the large silver holographic hexes was just too much for me. So I put the polish back on the shelf. Those past weeks photos of Belugaria were popping up everywhere. Then I heard the Encrusted Treasures collection was coming to German drugstores in February.... and the pictures of Belugaria started going around in my head again. I still think it does not look flattering on the nails, but on the other hand, this polish is unlike everything I own; it is unique, a statement and definitely not for everybody. Being the nail polish hoarder collector that I am, I had to get this after all. So long story short, I bought this when I finally got my hands on it over here (it had already sold out in several drugstores) and I had to try it immediately.

I first tried this on its own and you can get it opaque with two coats, but it looks like a shattered discoball on asphalt. So I ended up wearing one coat of Belugaria over one coat of Essie Licorice and I think it looks ok-ish :) Like other textured polishes, this does dry fairly quick and you have to work fast to distribute the small beads evenly. While the beads and the large glitters make even application a bit tricky, it is manageable. The black base is not thick or goopy at all.
The Essie Encrusted Treasures collection is available now in German DM drugstores. The polishes are selling quickly, so better hurry before it is gone!

By the way, how do you like my new nubs ;) It's been two weeks since I broke the nail on my middle finger all the way down to the nail bed. It has grown a bit since and I decided to nubbinze all my nails. I just don't like it when they are not all the same length. So my new short nails were the perfect opportunity to wear this black polish. To me, dark polishes look more flattering in short nails than on long talons. I guess Belugaria on my long nails would have been a bit too much.

I am prepared for lots of controversy in the comments. I think one either loves or hates this polish, there is no in between. I personally like it. Not because it is such a beauty, but because of its uniqueness. How about you?

Thanks for reading,
