I have already complained about the fact that this summer's neon collections from the main nail polish brands like OPI or Essie were not neon. And I still argue that most of the shades do not deserve to be called neon. They're bright, no doubt about that, but not your highlighter color you'd expect in such a collection. But then OPI - Down To The Core-al came along to proof me wrong. This bright hot coral color with its hot pink shimmer is bright enough to be considered neon and has easily become my favorite polish from the Neon collection.
The formula of OPI Down To The Core-al was a bliss to work with. While I had some issues with Life Gave Me Lemons, which was patchy on the first two coats, this one went on smoothly. Here I applied three thin coats over the Essence Peel Off base coat. I currently prefer a peel off base, because I broke one of my nails completely and had to patch it. The Peel Off base allows me to skip nail polish remover, which extends the wear of my patches. By the way, can you tell which one is the patched nail?! ;) Oh and I did not use a white base underneath! After seeing lots of comparisons, I honestly think white undies do not make much of a difference.
Like other neons, Down To The Core-al dries to a matte finish. Because I find it to be a bit flat looking that way, I applied one coat of Underground Nails Quickie top coat. The shiny finish also brings out the hot pink shimmer more.
All in all, this shade is a winner in my book and the coral shade will suit lots of different skin tones. So go and grab it if you like a bright coral color!
Down To The Core-al and the rest of the OPI Neons collection is available at German retailers now. You can buy OPI from Karstadt, Douglas or Breuninger for example. A 15ml bottle retails for 16€.
