Happy Sunday everyone,
I hope you all had a great Christmas time with your loved ones! Since the year is coming to an end, I thought I'd share with you my favorite products of 2014. Today I have for you some make up items, but there will also be a nail care and nail polish edition, so stay tuned for that! For this post, I chose the one product from each category which I have used the most over the year. There is something for everyone, from bold to nude, from affordable to expensive.
Let us start with the base. 2014 was all about BB Creams. While Western BB Creams are unlike the original from Asia, there is one product that stood out to me. The Clinique Age Defense BB Cream in shade 1 is light enough for my complexion, gives a good amount of coverage has a decent SPF of 30.
This year I also rediscovered mineral foundation, which I mostly used during the hotter months, when regular foundation or BB cream tends to melt off my face. I tried the one from Bare Minerals, but I could not find a good match for me. The brand Lily Lolo offers a variety of colors, especially for pale people like me. My shade is 'blondie', which is a good match for my MAC NW10 complexion.
To conceal my undereye area I almost exclusivly used the 17 Stay Time concealer, that I picked up during my last trip to London. I got it in the shade 'extra fair', which nicely brightens my undereye area, does not crease and has a nice dewy finish.
To set my concealer and highlight my face I love the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in the shade Ethereal Light. This white looking powder is transparent on the skin and adds a subtle shimmer to the face without looking like a disco ball - big love!
Since I have an oily t-zone, I also prefer to set my foundation in that area with powder. The one I reached for most this year is the Prime and Fine Waterproof Mattifying Powder from Catrice. It does not add more coverage and does not look cakey when used sparingly.
The two blushes I used most are the Physician's Formula Glow And Mood Boosting Powder in translucent and Tarte's Dazzled. The former works as a subtle blush for me, as it adds a peachy glow to my cheeks. The latter is perfect during Fall.
On my eyes, I use Urban Decay Primer Potion as my base. For my everyday work makeup, I used the Make Up Academy baked eyeshadow trio in Innocence. This blends so well and the color payoff is amazing, considering this is only £2.50! For Fall and Winter I mainly reached for the eyeshadows in the Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette. The combination of gold, plum and browns is just perfect in my opinion. By the way, the blush and highlighter in that palette are gorgeous, too!
Sometimes I even wore a little eyeliner. I normally suck at drawing a decent line or even a wing, but the Kat von D Trooper eyeliner makes things so so easy!
The drugstore offers the best mascaras in my eyes, and one that holds a special place in my heart is the Max Factor Clump Defy (sold as Covergirl Clump Crusher in the US). This holds the curl, gives legth and volume and does not smudge or crumble, even on long days.
Phew, we're almost done here. Only the lip department is missing. Choosing my favorites in this category was by far the hardest for me. I love lip sticks and switch up my lip color almost daily. I finally decided to go with the two products I have fallen in love with the most. Firstly, the Too Faced Melted liquid lipsticks deserve a mention. Shown in the picture is Melted Berry, but I also own Melted Coral and Melted Fid and I love them all! They're so pigmented, creamy, easy to apply and comfortable to wear.
Another range of lippies that have deeply impressed my are the Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipsticks. I know, they are pretty expensive, but they are worth every penny! I own Rebellious Rose and Captivating Coral, but I will surely get more in the future.
While I am not a huge lip gloss fan, the NYX Butter Glosses quickly won over my heart. They are creamy, moisturizing and smell great. The nude shade Crème Brulée is universal and goes with every make up look!
