Nail Art Books Recommendations

Hi folks,

today I have something a little different for you. I have not come across a post like this before and I hope you find this interesting. Since I am a scientist, I have a natural interest in the chemicals I put on my body on a daily basis and the impact these substances have on my cells. I've gathered quite some books about the pros and cons of ingredients in personal care products by now. Don't worry, I won't be preaching to you about all the oh so hazardous substances in our beloved nail varnish. I just tried to come up with a nice introduction to how I came across some books focusing on nail art and nail care ;) So here are my three favorite books dealing with nails.

New In My Stash Vol. 6

Hello ladies,

it has been a while since I did my last New In My Stash post. Looking back at the nail polish and make up items it bought during the past three months I have to say I got a little bit better at restraining my purchases - yay. For a detailed description and first impressions on what is new in my collection, read on after the jump!

#instafood Vol. 2 ~ Pancakes

Happy Sunday everyone!

If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen that this past Friday I suffered a severe break on my swatch hand. So I chopped down all my nails to nubbins, which per se is not a problem for me. I do enjoy a clean fresh start from time to time. I just don't like the look of my hands with extremely short nails. First world problems, I know, but sometimes I go totally mental over things like this. Don't get me wrong, I do love shorties on other people, I just can't pull them off. So I won't show any swatches until the break has grown out a bit.

This gives me the perfect opportunity to share a few other things that have been on my "to blog about" list for quite a while now. First up is my very favorite pancake recipe. I just love pancakes with fresh fruits, they brighten any gloomy morning... or afternoon or evening, just whenever I feel like needing a little yummy treat ;)

Sinful Colors Crystal Crushes ~ Blue Persuasion

Hi everyone,

so sorry I've been a little MIA these past days. I am currently running a course and lecture for biology students which keeps me quite busy. I really enjoy teaching students and this year they're very motivated, which makes it easier and even more fun ;)
So here is a quick swatch of another nail polish from my US haul for you. This is Blue Persuasion from Sinful Colors' textured range called Crystal Crushes. It is a blurple base with fuchsia small hex glitter.

[Review] Sally Hansen Satin Glam halfmoon skittles

Happy Sunday lovelies!

Today really is a sunny day over here, so it's the perfect opportunity to take some manicure pictures outside. I decided to finally use the latest Sally Hansen collection called Satin Glam and do some fancy half moons. These polishes dry to a shimmery matte or suede finish. Please ignore the super awkward hand pose while trying to squeeze in my thumb into the picture ;) For a thorough review of this collection read on after the jump!

Catrice Crushed Crystals ~ Oyster & Champagne

Today I want to show you one of the polishes that will be part of Catrice's new standard range. The brand usually purges its range twice a year and we have to say goodbye to some beloved products. Gladly, Catrice usually releases some interesting new products that make up for the loss of the old ones. This time, I am really looking forward to their Crushed Crystals nail polish range. Three of these were recently released in a limited edition called LaLa Berlin Loves Catrice and I snagged the rosy-gold color Oyster & Champagne.

Nicole by OPI ~ That's What I Mint

Hello lovelies,

it is time to share with you another textured polish. And before you ask, no, I am not tired of this nail trend yet ;) On my trip to the US in December I picked up That's What I Mint from the Nicole by OPI Gumdrops collection. That is my very first NOPI polish and I really enjoy it. I would have loved to get some more of the Gumdrops, but this one was the last bottle in the display - boo!

Formula X for Sephora ~ Brainchild

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a great weekend! For me, the weekend mainly consisted of house cleaning and running errands, but I am ok with that. I enjoy a slightly lazy weekend from time to time.
Today I want to share with you my review of Brainchild from Sephora's new nail polish range called Formula X for Sephora. These replaced the Sephora by OPI polishes earlier in 2013. On my last trip to the US I picked up two of these polishes and after trying the first one, I regretted not getting more. When I went to Sephora I was overwhelmed by the size of the Formula X nail polish rack and I had a hard time picking my favorites.
This range is divided into different "collections": there are neutrals and classics, which all have either a creme or shimmer finish. Then there are the Effects that include glitter topcoats, duo- and multichromes, chromes, neons, holographics... basically the Formula X range covers every finish you can think of. Anyways, before I start drooling over the memory of that nail polish rack, let's move on to swatches of Brainchild!

Impressions from NOLA and NYC

Good evening,

as promised, I am finally sharing a few photos of my trip to New Orleans and New York City with you. I will try not to blab too much, since this already is a picture heavy post. I hope you enjoy it!

Fishy Stamping Manicure

Happy Sunday everyone,

I hope you all are enjoying the first weekend of 2014 :) I sure am, but I am also a bit sad. Today I took down the Christmas decorations - Holiday season is finally over. And after three weeks of absence from the lab I have to go back to work tomorrow morning. Meh.
This weekend I pulled out my MoYou stamping plates and practiced some more. I also wanted to finally try the polishes from Mexico I got in a swap. I ended up using Bissu - 226 Azul Quemado (which according to Google Translate means Burnt Blue) as my base color and China Glaze - Adore for stamping. The images I used are from MoYou Sailor plate 05.

Hi there,

since many of you were curious about what things I bought while I was in the US, I thought I'd share with you a little haul post. I already tried some of the items so I can provide a little first impression, too. So let's get started :)
