[Swatch & Review] OPI Soft Shades 2015

review soft shades

I am not good at fashion things and I dare saying I don't even have a sense of style. Therefore, I like to distract from my lack of trendiness with my nails and makeup. When it comes to nail polish and lipstick, I like to live by the "Go hard, or go home!" mentality. Hence, my reactions towards the new OPI Soft Shades for 2015 were a bit reserved at first. Don't get me wrong, I know that not everyone can or wants to rock neon green and bright red nails for work or everyday life and there is nothing wrong with that. All the colors do look pretty in their bottles, I just wasn't sure if sheer nude shades would be for me. Still I tried to review them without bias.

Let us start with Act Your Beige! This is a sheer off white color. And with sheer I mean very sheer! After two coats, it still looked like I had nothing on my nails. After three coats, you could still see the visible nail line, but you get this pretty French manicure look. I think this will look much better on short nails with only a small free edge (check out @handstandsandglitter on IG, she rocks this one so well).

Put it in Neutral is an equally sheer pinky nude polish. It looks darker in the bottle than on the nails and in the picture I am wearing three thin coats (btw, I only had a mini set of these, hence I am holding Soft Petal). This one was easy to work with, levelled nicely and dried to a shiny gelly finish.

Next up is Chiffon My Mind. This white creme contains blue and pink shimmer, which is more prominent in the bottle than on the nails. This went on a little patchy and I had to do three coats to even everything out.

When I first saw That Silver's Mine! in the bottle, I thought I had finally found a shade of silver that goes well with my skin tone. The touch of beige in it makes it more wearable for me. Then I applied this onto my nails and saw the frosty mess it was. Ugh. I wanted to love this one, but with its brush strokey finish it does nothing for me. I even tried the "matte-top-coat-before-glossy-top-coat trick", but this did not really eliminate the brush strokes either, as you can see in the third photo. It covered evenly with two coats.

Petal Soft probably is the star of the collection. This topper holds medium pink hexes, tiny and small white hexes and large white flowers in a clear base. This glitter polish was easy to work with, I did not even have to fish too much for the flowers. I did have to dab rather than brushing it on to disperse the particles evenly. Shown here is one layer over Act Your Beige!.

Last but not least, we have Make Light of the Situation, an iridescent glitter topper. This is one coat over Put it in Neutral. I was really surprised by how much I liked this combination. The formula was great and I can see myself getting a full size bottle of this pretty glitter polish.

All in all, the OPI Soft Shades 2015 are a decent mix of neutral palette cleansers and girly glitter toppers. These will work well for formal occasions such as weddings, job interviews or just a subtle manicure for work.
The OPI Soft Shades will be available at German retailers in the beginning of May. All six shades will be available in full size bottles which retail for 16€ each. There will also be a mini set containing Act Your Beige!, Put it in Neutral, This Silver's Mine! and Make Light of the Situation. The mini set retails for 17,95€.

Will you be getting something from this collection?
